The Villiera reds capture the unique combination of Old World and New World styles and have gained international approval for their well-balanced intensity and understated elegance. The predominant varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. As a Merlot specialist we have a premium Merlot on offer called Monro Merlot which proudly carries the family name of generations of Griers. We have now released a super-premium red wine called The Clan. The red wine range is completed by the Down to Earth, a Touriga Nacional / Shiraz blend.

Fully ripe grapes are crushed and destalked before fermentation in both rototanks and pump over vessels. On completion pressing occurs in velo pneumatic bag presses. Malolactic fementaion occours in tank before the wine is racked off into a mix of oak barrels for about 12 months of maturation (20% new 80% used) (30% American White oak 70% French Oak). Villiera Merlot 2006

The colour of the wine is a brilliant red. The aroma shows hints of cedarwood and vanilla with attractive dark berry fruit. On the palate the wine is rich and full with soft tannins and good acidity. The wine has a long finish but is drinkable at present. It will however mature for up to six years from vintage.

Villiera Merlot/Pinotage 1999

The wine demonstrates an attractive deep red colour with forthcoming aromas of berry fruit and spice. The oak gently penetrates the bouquet with hint of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate the wine is well balanced with soft tannins and a rich long finish. Although the wine can be enjoyed now it has the potential te keep for 7 to 8 years.
